Alsace Grand Cru Steingrubler

Located on a southeastern exposure with stony limestone and marl soil.

The Steingrubler terroir borders part of the town of Wettolsheim, north of Eguisheim. Its southeast facing slopes as well as its soil, from sandy marl to sandstone and marl, delivers wines intended for aging, wines that provide deep and rich aromas. The upper part of the vineyard is perfectly suited to Riesling while the lower, richer part is best for Gewurztraminer. Whatever the varietal, the Grands Crus Steingrubler are well-structured, solid, even virile wines.

Our Alsace Grand Cru Steingrubler Wolfberger comes in two varietals, GEWURZTRAMINER and RIESLING.

Did you know?

Meaning “quarry” in English, this Alsace Grand Cru lies upon an ancient stone quarry which gives it its name, first mentioned around 1487 in Marbach. The Steingrubler appeared for the first time when the wines of the region were taking a place of honor at the tables of the northern princes of Europe. Marbach Abbey owned many of the vineyards on the site, and was mentioned as late as 1888 when the wines of Wettolsheim were quite popular.
